Ancient Anatolia Network

The Ancient Anatolia Network was founded in 2023 under the auspices of The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH). In 2026, the Network became part of the Ancient World Research Cluster (AWRC) at Wolfson College, providing a new home for its activities and a foundation for their continued development.

Ancient Anatolia was a crossroads of peoples, languages and cultures, and its study today is similarly situated at the intersection of numerous academic disciplines. Since its foundation, the Network has brought together scholars and students working across archaeology, history, linguistics, philology, epigraphy and literature, fostering exchange across disciplinary and institutional boundaries.

In a remarkably short time, the Ancient Anatolia Network has developed into a vibrant local and international community. Its lectures, seminars, reading groups, conferences and other activities have created a forum in which researchers at different stages of their careers can meet, exchange ideas, encounter work beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines, and develop new collaborations and shared projects.

Building on the community established during its years at TORCH, the Ancient Anatolia Network now continues within the AWRC as a forum for researchers globally. It seeks both to sustain the connections that have already grown around the Network and to create new opportunities for collaboration, bringing together the many different approaches through which the languages, histories, literatures and material cultures of ancient Anatolia can be explored.
