The Business of Making and Editing a Medical Book in Late Antique Italy

This talk is about the making, probably in Ravenna before 600 CE, of a Latin version of the works of a famous Greek doctor, Alexander of Tralles, and about the work in progress to publish a first critical edition of it. The Latin text is of interest not only to historians of medicine, for the sections that are added to Alexander's Greek original and for the complex transmission of the Latin version in whole and in part, but also to philologists as a long prose work produced in a bilingual setting in the Late Latin of northern Italy.
