Caratacus's Saga: Coins, Kings and Cross-country Connections in pre-Roman Britain

The coins produced in Britain before the Roman invasion of AD 43 often have inscriptions representing Britiish personal names like Cartivellaunos and Esuprastus.  Taking as a narrative framework Caratacus's ultimately unsuccessful but highly mobile career as resistance leader - which took him from eastern England to the north via Wales - the talk will explore what the onomastics, and the numismatics, might have to say about indigenous elite networks across late Iron Age Britain.
